RAPSIG welcomes back Haley Hardman as VP of Outreach (Assistant Professor of Marketing, Idaho State University). Haley served as the PhD student liaison for RAPSIG during the academic year 2021-22, prior to assuming her new role. Before choosing a life in academia, Haley worked as an intern for Kleinfield Bridal (from Say Yes to the Dress!) and as a sales associate for a boutique store. Her love of the relational aspects of marketing drew her to get her Ph.D. in marketing so she could learn more about retail strategy. She particularly enjoys branding, the psychology behind effective relationship building, and how that impacts business practices.

As the hours of a PhD student are long and rejection is common, Haley thinks it’s important to celebrate both large and small victories. She celebrates with friends through dinners, spending time outside, playing tennis, or day trips to nearby cities. When not working, Haley enjoys traveling, visiting national parks, and watching The Office.
“I would advise new PhD students to make an effort to start thinking everyday thoughts and carrying out everyday activities with a marketing lens. Take note of your personal experiences and repeatedly ask yourself: “How does this relate to marketing?” This exercise can help develop research ideas and allow you to pursue natural curiosities, which is such a fun part of the job!”
