Abhijit is an associate professor at the University of South Carolina. He earned his marketing PhD from Duke University. Before his life in academia, Abhijit worked in sales for firms like HSBC and Barclays Bank, and consulted on sales for firms like McKinsey. Most of his research centers around pricing, but recently he has started working on technology.

He loves teaching the large 400+ undergraduate classes. Pre-COVID19, he could jump off the stage, run through the crowd, and engage with students (or hand them the mic and let them talk). More recently, during COVID19, he not only teaches these very large classes online, but also runs workshops for the university, training others to teach very large online classes.

Pre-COVID19, Abhijit celebrated by going to Las Vegas (and he hopes to return to Las Vegas in a few months). His other interests involve NCAA and NBA basketball, as well as attending live comedy shows.

What advice does Abhijit have for current PhD students or young scholars?

“Take a hard look at your project portfolio, and ruthlessly cull projects that are ‘failing’. You are subject to a clock as a PhD student / junior scholar, and chasing failing projects is a luxury you cannot afford.”
