– The Journal of Retailing will host a webinar related to the Special Issue on Retailing on the Metaverse on October 25, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m ET.
These days, there is a lot of online conversation about the metaverse and its potential for retailing and beyond. There is no consulting company, CEO, or LinkedIn influencer who has not written about the topic in the past months. Still, despite this widespread interest, basic questions seem unclear, starting from the definition of the term metaverse even means.
Within this webinar, Michael Haenlein, Kelly Hewett, Minakshi Trivedi, and Katrijn Gielens aim to answer some of these questions. We outline what the metaverse is, what it is not, and how it differs from the virtual social worlds discussed in literature a decade ago. We then outline how the metaverse changes consumer behavior and how retailers and marketers should respond to these changes along the consumer journey. This allows us to present a series of potential research questions that should be addressed to advance our understanding of the role of the metaverse in retailing.
The webinar consists of a brief presentation (about 30 minutes) followed by a series of questions from the audience. It is associated with a Special Issue of the Journal of Retailing on the same topic, more information about which can be found here: https://drive.google.com/…/1I8WYyf4sgsMA1QilkjQ1lsjuN…/view…
