After leaving the world of 6th grade science teachers, Riley was drawn to marketing for its real world actionability and numerous stakeholders, Riley focuses his research on retailing (obviously), services, frontlines, and the impact these areas have on society. He believes the impact of technology is an important retailing area of focus in order to keep pace with trends and stay relevant. Riley’s research explores digital marketing and technology in retail and service settings, with a focus on the organizational frontlines, public policy, and blood donations. Riley’s research has appeared in the Journal of Supply Chain Management, the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, and through the American Antitrust Institute, and has been awarded over $160,000 in grant funding.

Imparting some of his wisdom to PhD students, Riley suggests, “Go to as many conferences as early as you can to meet people, get out of your own world, and create a network of friends who can relate to life as an academic.”
It’s most likely Riley celebrated his many accomplishments with a very dry martini sipped in the company of Grandpa, his beloved pup (pictured below). When not working, Riley enjoys taking Grandpa out on the town, having game nights with close friends, and attending local stand-up comedy events.
